Cromwell House Attends Huntingdon Service of Remembrance: Honouring Our Heroes Together

11 November 2024

On Sunday, 10th November, Cromwell House Nursing Home proudly took part in the Huntingdon Service of Remembrance held at the Market Place, gathering with the community to honour and remember those who sacrificed their lives in service. Representing our home and residents, we laid a wreath at the town’s War Memorial, “The Thinking Soldier,” a powerful tribute to fallen heroes, alongside local dignitaries and selected civilian contingents.

The parade was an inspiring display of unity and respect, with participation from RAF Wyton and various Service elements, including the Wyton area voluntary band, Huntingdon Royal British Legion, Royal Naval Association, Royal Air Force Association, TS Cromwell Sea Cadets, 73 (Huntingdon) Squadron RAF Air Cadets, and the Cambridgeshire Army Cadets (Huntingdon Detachment). The event beautifully illustrated the depth of respect and solidarity within our community.

Representing Cromwell House, Carol Wilson (Care home manager of Cromwell House), Danielle Keeble (Deputy Manager of Cromwell House) and Alison (Activity Coordinator of Cromwell House) attended the service alongside residents Andrew Posnett and Anthony Chapman. With support, Anthony took part in the moving moment of laying the wreath on behalf of our home, symbolising our shared remembrance and gratitude for those who have served and sacrificed.

The ceremony was deeply emotional and resonated with all who attended. The presence of a large number of community members underscored the enduring respect and appreciation felt for those who have given so much for peace and freedom. Both Andrew and Anthony expressed that they found the service deeply moving and meaningful, grateful to have been part of this important occasion.

The wreaths laid during the service remain at the memorial, allowing the public to continue to pay their respects in the days that follow. We are honoured to have taken part in this significant event and look forward to future opportunities to remember and pay tribute to our heroes together.
