Kendal Care Home goes green with Solar panels

12 April 2024

Kendal Care home has had solar panels installed by Sustain Commercial Solar.

The panels are expected to provide more than 40% of the care home’s electricity.

Graham Burrell, the manager of Kendal Care Home, said ‘It’s great to be contributing to improving the environment. Care homes are always open – we’re caring for more than 100 elderly residents 24/7 – so we use a lot of electricity’.

We’ve installed 200 Tier 1 solar panels, and it’s immediately generating electricity. The care home is already generating electricity, equivalent to the electricity used by 22 normal households, this will reduce utility costs across the group significantly and avoid thousands of tonnes of CO2.

Andy Taylor, Finance Director, said ‘Green energy is critical in reducing our carbon footprint. It’s also a key part of our move to improve our environmental impact, along with energy efficient lighting, reducing waste and improving re-cycling. This is the first home we’ve installed solar panels in and we’ll be looking to roll it out across our other homes. We’ve estimated that on this home alone it will save approximately 12.8 tons of carbon a year, equivalent to planting about 580 trees.’
