Birthday Bonanza January for Aarandale Manor

27 January 2021

Aarandale Manor has been having a Birthday Bonanza in January as our residents celebrate their birthdays during this month. In the last few weeks we have had two of our residents turn 100 and one turned 101! It started with Olive in the end of December where she had a beautiful floral display and special birthday cake made of her favorite Green and Blacks cake. It then carried on in the beginning of January where we had Dinah celebrate her 101st birthday!

Aarandale’s Winter Wonderland

21 January 2021

Our Aarandale Residents take great delight in visiting the beautiful garden not just in the summer but all year round! One of our residents could not resist stepping out into last Sunday’s snow spectacular that turned Aarandale’s grounds into a Winter Wonderland. Our newly turned Centenarian, eagerly donned her winter coat and an improvised head covering with the close supervision provided by the Carer’s.  She satisfied her hearts joy of having a stroll through the new fallen snow. To the delight of the residents peering out the windows and looking at the Snowman made by Carer. It was chilly but a fun day indeed! Let it snow! Let it snow! Let it snow!

At Heron Hill Care Home fun was had by all in a wreath making class held by two of our very talented carers, Suly and Sara. Giving up their own free time, Suly and Sara held a workshop for our lovely residents demonstrating on how to make a Christmas wreath. Fun and laughter was had by all involved as Suly and Sarah assisted them all in making their own wreaths, and as you can see they have all done an amazing job. There are beautiful!

Postcards For Kindness

23 March 2020

Abbeydale care home has been helping to reduce loneliness among older people – simply by sending a postcard. Residents at Abbeydale Court Care Home signed up to participate in the Postcards for Kindness initiative and they also teamed up with youngsters from West Park Nursery and Chatelherault Primary, who helped them write their postcards. Lynn Adam, wellbeing coordinator at the care home, said: “The Postcards for Kindness group was founded by Louise Baker and now has 27,000 members. It involves care homes all around the world and we were one of the first in Scotland to join this group. It allows residents to make and send various cards to other care homes and is a great topic of conversation over a cuppa. It has had a fabulous reaction, with our residents reading their mail, and indeed writing postcards, as it brings back lovely memories for them.”

The pupils and residents enjoy meeting up regularly and celebrating the initiative at the care home.

Huntingdon In Bloom

23 March 2020

Cromwell Care Home had a fantastic day where they were joined by the team from Huntingdon County Council, to plant 3000 snowdrops in the walled garden.  They were also supported on the day by 20 personnel from USAF Alconbury to help us complete this task.

The USAF in the afternoon enjoyed a wonderful time with the residents decorating bird boxes and planters ready for spring.  The residents enjoyed their time reminiscing about time either spent in America or their time in the military service, many of which were based in East Anglia aside the USAF.
